Skeletal Muscle During Static Exercise
Microneurographic measurements of muscle sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) have suggested that, during static exercise, central command is much less important than skeletal muscle afferents in causing sympathetic neural activation. The possibility remains, however, that the sympathetic discharge produced by central commandis targeted mainly to tissues other than skeletal muscle. To examine this ...
متن کاملMetabolic Inhibition During Rat Skeletal Muscle Contraction
Our previous studies in rat skeletal muscle have determined that neural constriction of large arterioles, which regulate blood flow and peripheral resistance, is mediated by al-adrenoceptors, whereas small arterioles, which determine effective capillary density, depend on £V2receptors. During physical exercise, metabolic vasodilators from contracting skeletal muscle oppose neural vasoconstricti...
متن کاملRelationships of the vibromyogram to the surface electromyogram of the human rectus femoris muscle during voluntary isometric contraction.
The relationship between vibromyographic (VMG) and electromyographic (EMG) signals during isometric contraction of the human rectus femoris muscles was studied. The method of least squares was used to obtain the best-fitting linear regression model to the root mean squared (RMS) values of the VMG and the EMG. It is shown that for the rectus femoris of four subjects, a linear VMG versus EMG rela...
متن کاملActivation of AMP aminohydrolase during skeletal-muscle contraction.
AMP aminohydrolase activity is enhanced by 60% after 5 s tetanic stimulation of phosphorylase kinase-deficient mouse muscle and after 60 s tetanus in normal mice. During the recovery from tetanus the activity in the contralateral leg is similarly enhanced. The activation is stable to 1000-fold dilution and has a half-life of approx. 1 h.
متن کاملRegulation of skeletal muscle carbohydrate oxidation during steady-state contraction.
Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) activation status has been described as being central in the regulation of tissue substrate oxidation as outlined by the glucose fatty-acid cycle. In the present study we examined the effects of reduced lipolysis, with use of nicotinate, and increased PDC activation, with use of dichloroacetate (DCA), on substrate utilization during 20 min of submaximal stea...
